As many may have already heard, the tragic news that the singer for the Irish band The Cranberries, Dolores O’riordan, passed away recently at a terribly young age. Admittedly, I didn’t know many of their songs outside of their biggest singles at the time, but after hearing the news and going through their records I rediscovered a nostalgic favourite of mine.
“Dreams” was one of the biggest and the best pop songs of the 90s. I remember hearing the radio spin it 24/7 when I was growing up and even today it sounds timeless. Dolores’s enchanting vocals dance over a serene pop soundscape and everything melds together so effortlessly. It will forever be a staple of my childhood the same way songs like “Zombie” and “Linger” will for others. I may not have given the time to listen to their discography back then, but as a music lover, I’m incredibly grateful for the little I did know.
